Favorite Wedding Venues Part 1:

One of the best things about getting to film dozens of weddings per year is being able to visit the far corners of the beautiful state of Washington–as well as others–and witness all of the many kinds of wedding venues clients have chosen for their big day.

From lavish hotels to tranquil forests and idyllic orchards to ritzy golf courses, there is an almost overwhelming amount of venues we have shot at. Ultimately, the site of your wedding is one of the most crucial decisions you have to make in the wedding planning process. After all, venues can book up years in advance, so be sure to double and triple check right now if you already have places and dates in mind!

A recent article from Weddingwire does offer some helpful advice on why choosing a hotel is one of the best decisions you can make for your venue. For example, depending on the hotels in question, most will have different event spaces to hold your ceremony and reception. In addition, most hotels that offer wedding accommodations will also have a wedding planner on staff and you’ll be able to take care of just about everything all at once on-site. Most importantly–it provides convenience. You, your guests, and the wedding will all be located within the same building, preventing the need to worry about transportation to and from the ceremony.

You also don’t have to worry about your guests getting home safely

As always, this got us thinking: what have been our favorite venues over the past few years? Well we’ve boiled them down to our seven favorites and are splitting them up into a double feature!! The first set is below–and be sure to check out the rest tomorrow!

The Edgewater House, Olalla WA

Just north of Gig Harbor, The Edgewater House is an absolute delight. Right on the waterfront, with the altar peaking across the bay, there simply is no beating this venue for a summer wedding. Providing staff and service that always exceeds expectations, the venue will do just about anything in its power to ensure your perfect day. From a greeting service, parking attendants, a shuttle service to the parking lot, and enough tables and chairs for over 200 people, there’s simply no way you can be disappointed by the amenities and customer service.

For those with money they’re just aching to get rid of, you can even arrive by seaplane, helicopter or boat and be greeted by champaign! Bonfires, s’mores packages and more are also available, though showing up to your wedding by seaplane sounds pretty freaking rad. Depending on the weather, you can even request your own firework show for your guests to view from the beach below!

We’ve shot several weddings there, but the Duprel and Staggs weddings both highlight just how gorgeous the venue really is. Both weddings, which were massive in size, had more than enough space to dance and party into the golden hours of the evening. The scenic location also offers endless spots to do stunning photoshoots and poses against a variety of backdrops. There’s just so much to love about this place!

The Golf Club at Newcastle, Newcastle WA

You don’t need to be Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson to enjoy getting married at the utterly scenic and undeniably breathtaking Golf Club at Newcastle. Sure it might be all the way up on a hill, but one look at the view and you’ll realize it was all worth it. With a panoramic view that sweeps all across the region, encompassing Seattle, Lake Washington, and the majestic Olympics way out in the distance, it’s worth it alone just to drive up to see it for yourself.

But for your big day, the staff is ready to…caddy…to your needs with multiple settings for the ceremony, outdoor patios (with heaters for those chilly evenings) and even a Scottish bagpiper! Bridal suites are also available to those who want to get ready on site–and they even provide a Bridal Attendant to guarantee your complete satisfaction.

While the Schroder wedding is one of the most stunning weddings we’ve shot, the proposal of Connor and Addie also showcases much of what makes the Golf Club so darn spectacular. We just love the views so much, and even the interiors are as formidably beautiful. It’s certainly a hole-in-one in our books!

The Arctic Club, Seattle WA

Don’t be fooled by the name, you won’t be taking any polar bear plunges or chilling out on blocks of ice as this venue. Rather, the Arctic Club is one of Seattle’s finest hotels and boasts an exceptionally gorgeous event space called the Northern Lights Dome Room with an unforgettable ceiling that rivals ones you’d find in Europe. Formally a social club for men returning from the Yukon Gold Rush, the building is now part of the National Register of Historic Places!

Able to host up to 320 guests, the Arctic Club comes ready with a full china service, dance floors, silver service, and you even get a complimentary night’s stay if you book your wedding there! Also available is valet parking, custom decorations, floral arrangements and more. Plus, you get to pick from a prepared list of vendors and musicians to perform! To top it all off, their catering team is prepared to serve anything from a traditional dinner with menus to a buffet. Just one look at their menu–which includes such mouthwatering options as Scallops Nage, roasted pork, chicken, or sirloin, and even a “late night snack” of kobe beef sliders–will make your stomach growl.

The Cone wedding, back in September of 2016, showcases the immenseness of the dome and the sheer size of the event space. Speckled with gold and white, nothing says “royalty” like the literally-dazzling wallpaper seen during the photoshoots. If you want a luxurious wedding, you really can’t go wrong with the Arctic Club.

That’s it for today! Do check back in later this week to find out even more of our favorite venues including a church and a winery!

Salama Wedding on 5/29/17 at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel – Same Day Edit

“Really enjoyed working with you.  Thank you again for making our day so memorable”

One of our first outings from the 2017 “wedding season”, the Salama wedding is absolutely gorgeous from start to finish and remains one of our most visually stunning videos we’ve done. Opening up with a breathtaking view of Seattle, our drone operator soars the camera over the Sound as it approaches the big wheel on the pier. For natives and lovers of Seattle, there’s no denying its beauty as the city rises up from the water to meet the sky. On a gorgeous, spring day, there’s no beating the views.

With the official ceremony held at the magnificent St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, the reception at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, and photos down by Lake Union, Joanna and Michael’s wedding was quite the day! Starting off with getting ready, Michael’s speechless response to Joanna’s letter for him was the first indicator that the two were more than ready for their big day.

Their first look, set against the hotel’s towering windows in The Garden Room, is just another reminder of how beautiful your wedding day can be with proper planning. The entire bridal party soon joined in with more photos, smiles, and even a surprise FaceTime visit. Hopping into a sleek Ferrari, the bride and groom headed off for the monumental St. Mary’s (enhanced by our jaw-dropping drone footage) to have a traditional Coptic Orthodox wedding.

Truly spectacular both inside and out, the church is one of our favorite locations to shoot at with its iconic orange domes and its paintings and icons. The entire ceremony, along with a packed church, is a sight to behold because it is so unlike any wedding you’ve seen, unless of course you are Coptic Orthodox then this is nothing too surprising. But for most other people—especially Seattleites—this is a rare occasion to witness the ceremonies of an entirely different culture.

Following the ceremony, Joanna and Michael hopped back in the Ferrari that would shuttle them down to Lake Union for some photos in the sun. It was a spectacular day as everyone was out and about, swimming and frolicking in the May weather with everything in bloom.

The reception back at Fairmont Olympic Hotel was an extravagant affair with hundreds of people, a massive gold-crusted cake, and plenty of partying and dancing. The Spanish Ballroom serves as a superb event space with tons of space for dancing, and an elegant design that certainly adds a bit of class and regency to your big day.

What made this wedding particularly special was the fact that their wedding highlights video was edited and shown the same day as their wedding! Joanna and Michael had guests attending from all over the world and wanted to give them a firsthand glimpse of their wedding highlights before the reception was even over. Shortly following their first dance, Reid finished up edits on the highlight video and shared it for the first time in front of the bride, groom, and the rest of their family and friends. It was a hit!

We loved shooting bride and groom Joanna and Michael’s big day. A uniquely cultural service combined with decadent tastes make for a superb day as is, but when you toss in some of the best weather Seattle has to offer and there’s not a chance in the world that you can’t fall in love with the city. Thank you and congratulations to the bride and groom!

Every year, dozens of celebrities get married in extravagant bashes that put most common weddings to shame. As you’ve seen in our other articles, some even cut their cake with a sword and other over-the-top flourishes that demonstrate the wealth of the bride and groom. Of course, not all of these multi-million dollar affairs end like the fairy tales do—some lead to heartbreaking divorces that cost the couple even more money.

A few recent articles highlighted the biggest celebrity weddings of 2017, while another took a look at the most expensive weddings that ended in divorce. While that makes us very sad to think about—we want nothing but lifetime’s of happiness for our clients and every married couple—it does go to show that sometimes a simple wedding can prevent regret later on.

As part of our Wedding News Roundup, we love to dig into these articles, so before we turn the page on 2017 entirely, let’s take a look back at some of the biggest celebrity wedding headlines of the year!

Biggest Celebrity Weddings of 2017

As previously mentioned (and featured in our Favorite Wedding Cake Cutting Moments article) Gucci Mane’s wedding to Keyshia Ka’oir was a…sharp…affair with his sword-sliced cake-cutting ceremony. The wedding, which totaled an impressive $1.7 million, was held in Miami just this past October. Be sure to check check out that article for more pics of the sword and shin-dig!

It’s been a few years since that whole “Let It Go” song completely ruined (or revolutionized, depending on who you ask) airwaves, and even shorter since John Travolta completely butchered Idina Menzel’s name at the Oscars. But, thankfully, Travolta wasn’t in attendance at Menzel’s September wedding or we have no idea who would’ve gotten married to who. The acclaimed singer married now-husband Aaron Lohr. Boy, Travolta would’ve been in trouble if he officiated.

This one is pretty exciting, Julia Stiles (who is no stranger to Seattle for anyone who has watched the immeasurable classic 10 Things I Hate About You), actually got married husband Preston J. Cook right here on a beach in Seattle during a private ceremony! Seattle seems to be pretty low in high-profile wedding planning, so we’ll take this one as a win!

While you can catch both of them starring in The Disaster Artist right now, Dave Franco and Alison Brie (who stars in the stellar Glow on Netflix) tied the knot in a “low-key top secret” wedding back in March. What started out to be a big year for Franco keeps getting bigger as his latest movie is receiving rave reviews. Hopefully his brother, James, wasn’t still in his Tommy Wiseau character for the ceremony.

Fans of Game of Thrones and now Aquaman will be saddened to know that Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa, is no longer on the market. The hulk of a man who won over the Queen of Dragons and now wields the mighty Trident in the DCEU films, married his partner of 10 years, Lisa Bonet, back in October! I’m sorry he’ll never be able to tell you, “you are the moon of my life.”

2016 proved to be a devastating year for actor-comedian Patton Oswalt who tragically lost his wife. 2017, however, was a complete 180 for him. Marrying partner Meredith Salenger just last month, Patton proves that you can always find happiness.

Most Expensive Weddings that Ended in Divorce:

A lot of these might confuse some of the younger audiences, especially those who can’t imagine a world where Brad Pitt married Jennifer Aniston. But this did happen back in 2000 and cost a reported $1 million. Supposedly featuring tons of flowers, several bands and a freaking fireworks display, it’s no surprise they racked up such a high tab. Unfortunately, just five years later the two divorced right around the time Pitt starred in Mr. and Mrs. Smith with future ex-wife Jolie. Hmm.

Eddie Murphy sure isn’t a name you hear about very often anymore, especially after the slide into the crapper that the Shrek franchise took (and is still taking, supposedly with another sequel incoming) but in the early 90s he was at the top of his game. So much so, that his marriage to Nicole Mitchell cost an astounding $1.5 million. With 500 guests, an estimated $25,000 just on the cake, you’d think it was royalty getting married. Twelve years later, divorce was filed for with the finalization coming in 2006.

Oh Tommy boy, how we loved seeing you hop up and down on Oprah’s couch and profess your undying love for Katie Holmes. The action hero who never rests, Tom Cruise isn’t everyone’s cup of tea—what with all the scientology and all—but you can’t deny him his taste. For one, who doesn’t love Katie Holmes? And two: he and Katie got married in a castle! Back in 2006, the two got married for a staggering $3 million. Maybe all of these action movies are just him paying off his debts?

There’s a lot of money flying around on this one. The not-so-happily-ever-after of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries began with a ring that was almost as much as Tom’s wedding! Just four months later, the two were primed and ready to go with a $10 MILLION wedding that hosted over 450 guests in 2011. They say money can buy you everything—but that doesn’t equate to a happy marriage. Kris and Rob separated 72 days later with a divorce to come shortly after. But what does it matter? She was always meant for Yeezy.

Few weddings surpass the $10 million mark, though many of us could probably think of far better ways to spend that kind of money. Prince Williams and Kate Middleton’s lavish affair is the most recent costly wedding at $34 million, and they’re still going strong!
