Every wedding and video shoot has its own unique challenges and forces us to learn and re-adapt. Today’s post and lesson for clients and professionals alike is, CRAIGSLIST IS THE BEST!
Over the last few years I’ve tried advertising all sorts of places. Magazines, newspapers, online profile sites (The Knot, Weddingwire,) but the one place where I always seem to find success is Craigslist.
I don’t do a good job of following up with my new clients’ about where they heard from me, but when I do I usually receive the same response “I think I found you on craigslist.”
It amazes me that such a odd site (believe me I’ve encountered some very strange and honestly inappropriate requests and posts) boasts such a wonderful network of hungry professionals from all sorts of industries (landscapers to videographers) looking for and offering quality goods and services.
Now not every post or request is going to be a guaranteed success, and just like most places you advertise not everyone is going to know what to expect in terms of cost of services. But for something that has no monetary cost besides the time and effort you put behind it, I must say I’ve found some great leads and jobs to work on.
Just this morning I received a request for someone needing a short bio video to apply for a job. That’s easy money and sometimes I probably never would have encountered otherwise.
Keep in mind you can attack craigslist on 2 fronts. You can post ads for services, or you can answer posts people post looking for services. I think I’ve probably had equal success applying for “gigs or jobs” as I have had promoting my own services through the site.
No matter what site or advertising platform you use however, you will only get OUT of it, the time and energy you put INTO it. Like they say, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch,” and even on a free website like Craigslist, I would certainly agree that’s the case.
